This is another backgammon game that blatantly cheats. It actually has the same programmer as others. Great interface if it actually played backgammon. After about the tenth time you go 8+ rolls with 2 or 3 open spots but cant bring anybody on, you get suspicious. After the 30th you lose all doubt (and kick yourself for being dumb enough to keep playing).

Expert mode completely rigged. Accept and embrace it. Use Auto-Finish to get it over with faster when game starts cheating.

Computer gets just the right roll over and over. Teaches you how to win when your opponent can control the dice.

*In turn-based mode, please remove the instructions you added right above the ongoing games. Those instructions make things confusing where its at. Whenever I see that, it makes me think I an in help mode instead of game mode. You should have left well enough alone. The amount of time for a player to make a move should be shortened - the games drag on too long as it is - waiting for an inactive player. Updated review: I started playing this app again and notice there arent as many players like before. Its taking days to find a random opponent in the turn-based mode. Enjoyable, smooth interface. It is a great feature when the AI tells you of a bad move. Add Tournament play, in turn-based mode and that would make my rating a five-star!

They recently had an update. I was hoping they would have found out what the random problem was and made it a fair and honest game. If it were possible theyve made the cheating worse. Pile of junk.

Not sure if dice are not biased but I really like the game regardless.

Its a great app if you love backgammon

I play this 1 hr per day. I luv this game! The latest update makes it basically an object of perfection.

This is an app that really knows how to play backgammon. Dont worry about the claims of cheating. Not true. This app will make you better at backgammon.

Lets get right to it. While the dice rolls against the AI are randomly generated, it is not "fair" because the AI can now "look ahead" and make moves based on what it already knows you are going to roll! Thats why some reviewers are upset because the computer leaves blots and openings but you can never land on them because it looks ahead! Sadly, this is not the "best" learning tool because the AI will leave blots or make seemingly bad moves since it already knows whats going to happen. If you copy down the randomly generated rolls and then replay the game manually your winning percentage will increase. So...why four stars? Because YOU can look ahead too and make it a bit fairer. Its also a pretty good AI when you play in manual mode but it does "cheat" so deduct one star. Its lots of fun if you dont take it too seriously!

Game cheats at expert level because it knows what next dice roll is going to be. This game is a waste of time. Expert level is biased and gets perfect roll every time. Other levels are to easy. I have been playing backgammon for 45 years and have never seen rolls so good in my life

Great game...computer is competitive and will give you a great challenge

I wish there was a way to insert my random roles in the games next 100 rolls. That way one could really test this program. I know in automated dice rolls, the program gets better dice arrangements in its favor as the difficulty level is increased. In the manual dice mode, I see a more cautious program making its moves.

I play backgammon a lot. This is an interesting app, some decent statistical assessments are available. But, the dice rolls are a little difficult to take. Im not sure if the dice are loaded, that would take some programming skill thats more likely than not beyond the author, but the frequency of the computer getting just the "right or perfect" roll is hard to believe. Ill play it now and then; it is very aggressive in its play, which is an interesting twist but only a psychotic human backgammon player would actually take some of the chances this app does. For the price its ok. Just ok.

I like to play it, and being inexperienced, I like the help, but it does cheat, consistently making incredible rolls for itself.

Ive really learned strategy from this great game. Challenges me to be a better player!

Im not sure why people think this game is "rigged"... i dont. Sometimes the dice are not in my favor .. well ... craps! Other times, they are in my favor. The doubling cube has a good AI and makes choices that make sense to me. The only game I ever played that was more challenging is one called "Jellyfish". Which is ANCIENT, but man.. was that AI SMART! So many BG games are not challenging enough. I think THOSE are the ones that are rigged to make you feel good about yourself, or they just dont have good decision engines. This one has better range than most. Only thing Id improve is the online, particularly when playing against friends. I absolutely want th turn based style, but this game does not do well notifying and keeping track.

I use Backgammon NJ HD daily, and could scarcely be happier with it. Im amazed by the functionality, I love the beautiful, intuitive design, and I particularly appreciate the fact that its an app clearly made by someone who knows backgammon as well as he knows programming. That someone is Jimmy Hu, and Ive developed great respect for the fact that he always responds to any inquiries or suggestions with speed and courtesy. A quick word about people who claim that "the dice are rigged" or "the app cheats." First, you can very easily PROVE to yourself or to anyone else that this is not so; to see how, simply read the instructions. Second, why would any programmer make such an app? I have played it for years and against people on the iPad is also awesome

Super fast, really ideal for iPad. You can choose skill levels, which is great. It also keeps all sort of statistics which I dont understand. Best computer backgammon I have ever used.
