Ripoff!

Computer cheats regardless of what the developer may say! Dont buy it!!

Cynical programming

Chu has researched his game. The computer play is adequate, but certainly not superior in the expert mode. What enables the computer to win is consistently perfect rolls--against all odds. The computer was able to bear off in one game in which I led by rolling three doubles in a row. 216 to 1. The human is given inferior rolls ostensibly to provide the illusion of expert play. Too bad. I had high hopes for this one. Wasted my money.

I wish only for one thing, when a waging-war partner is found, sound can be sounded.

trothgard

Apple removed my previous review about this game. They are selling a lie. Theres no fair play in this game. Even if youre the best player in the world youd lose by 90%. Most of the time, theres nothing you can do. The computer almost always gets the dice rolls it needs. But probably youll not be able to see this review, only good ones. 6.99$, very expensive for a game that couldve been very good with fair dice rolls.

The best there is for now...

A must for any backgammon afficianado... I definitely recommend it...

The best ever bg app i have ever seen

The ınterface qualıty is great, the ai is well figured. İ would be paying triple the price the developer is asking for. Thanks

Not fair game

Always rolls against, too much. Seems who plays more is favourite by the rolls. And the option to abort when you are loosing is stupid.

Good

Expensive compared to others, but fun

...challenging approach

When you increase the difficulties, statistically the algoritm is corrupted and the computer start to have better chance to win....in particular when the bet is doubled.....challenging but frustrating.

very nice

idem

Great app

Lot of fun with it. Good players and nice statistics. Enjoy

imprressive!

the a.i. of the game at expert level is impressive

It cheats

This app cheats when you are close to winning. Rolls itself tons of doubles. Does not let you come in for almost ten rolls sometimes. Loosing interest because of this

Dice rolls

App designers simply must improve random nature of computer dice rolls. I am either the most unlucky backgammon player in the galaxy or the computer dice rolls are not random.

Best Backgammon

One of my favorite games has been backgammon. I started playing against the computer since I had a palm pilot. This version is way harder than any Ive played before. I would say this, at the hard level, is better than the best human players I used to play online.

Mediocre app. Expert level, is not.

Nice design and easy to use. "Expert" level is not very expert. I was a good and tournament competitive BG player back in the day. Havent played in years and never played online. I grabbed this app because a friend was using it and even including 8-10 matches of me shaking off the rust, Ive raised my elo to 1700 and am 15-21 against the expert, winning over 40% of the matches, games, and points. Their expert level makes No Mistakes. With this very mediocre level of play, I find no reason to pay for an upgrade.

Steve

The dice are anything but random! Rolls double sixes and double fives when cornered! Wins initial roll 9 out of 10 games! Not even subtle about it.

Pretty good though feel like the rolls dont seem so random

I think its a pretty good design though, especially at the expert level, it does not seem like the rolls are random. Im not a programmer so I could be wrong . It just seems like there is a pattern in which the computer wins and then lets the user win

Expert rigged

Ive played this game for close to 5 years now. The graphics and game speed are great. There are no bugs and game functions flawlessly. The only issue I have, but its a big one is that the dice rolls for expert are not random. The designers will point out that you can "cheat" and preview the rolls for both players at ant time during game. I took the liberty of analyzing dozens of games and there were two observations. Overall move count for the computer was higher more than half the time and the doubles were almost always higher (that is, computer gets all 5s to my all 1s). Its hard to empirically know how the computer gets the "perfect roll" to trump your lone piece or to enter the game with one open space (while it takes you 5 rolls with 3 open spaces) but I tried playing 10 games using the hint button, thinking I would pit the computer against itself. I lost all 10 games in an embarrassing fashion. Its clear to me the game is rigged on the expert level. If your ego requires you to win occasionally, and your otherwise an excellent player, setting to "hard" is ideal. Otherwise, expert will improve your game but not you Elo score or your confidence. Its downright frustrating until you realize what others have been saying.....its rigged.

Works great... It doesnt cheat.

I have analyzed the dice patterns, and they are clearly random rolls for both sides no matter the level. The source code for the roll generation is available, and the implementation is correct. Do not play this on expert mode as it is like playing a top 100 global player. Not fun at all.
