Cheats Like A Las Vegas Showgirl

Why is it, after a hard-fought game, literally 100% of the time when jimmy is backgammoned, I am given dice rolls that force me to leave a man open. Not just once - more like 3 or 4 times - even if I use hints. Eventually I am hit, then cant roll in - anybody else?
